Indiana men’s soccer senior forward Tommy Mihalic was named the Big Ten’s Offensive Player of the Year, the conference announced Nov. 8. Mihalic tied for the conference lead in goals with 10, becoming the first Hoosier to win the award since Victor Bezerra in 2020.
After scoring a career-low two goals throughout the 2023 season, Mihalic tallied a career-high this year. He logged three braces and ranked second on the team in assists.
In addition to Mihalic, junior defender Quinton Elliot and seniors Patrick McDonald and Sam Sarver earned All-Big Ten First Team selections. Indiana’s four first team honors marked the most in the conference.
Elliot scored three goals –– including a brace against Washington on Oct. 4 –– and dished out three assists this season after transferring from the University of Louisville. Sarver and McDonald repeated as first team honorees, combining for seven goals and 10 assists.
Fifth-year senior goalkeeper JT Harms and fifth-year senior defender Jansen Miller picked up All-Big Ten Second Team selections. Harms was a repeat honoree, and Miller garnered his first conference selection.
The Hoosiers had two players named to the All-Big Ten Freshman Team in defender Josh Maher and midfielder Charlie Heuer. Heuer scored four goals in his debut campaign, including a brace against Penn State on Oct. 11, and added a pair of assists.
Maher is the third of his siblings to earn All-Freshman honors after his older brothers Jack and Joey did so in 2018 and 2020-21, respectively. Rounding out Indiana’s postseason awards was junior midfielder Jack Wagoner, who was Indiana’s Big Ten sportsmanship honoree.
The Hoosiers fell to Michigan 1-0 on Nov. 7 in the Big Ten Tournament quarterfinals. Now, head coach Todd Yeagley’s squad waits until Nov. 18 to find out if it earned an NCAA Tournament berth.
