Men’s tennis travels to South Bend

Indiana men's tennis competed in the University of Notre Dame's Irish Mini Duels from Nov. 1-3 in South Bend, Indiana.

The Hoosiers competed with 10 other teams, including the Fighting Irish. Indiana sent sophomore Nikola Kolyachev, freshman Matteo Antonescu, freshman Karan Raghavendra and freshman Braeden Gelletich to the competition.

In the singles matches, Gelletich was the only Hoosier to secure a win in all four rounds, winning his final match in three sets over Michigan sophomore Alex Cairo 7-5, 5-7, 1-0(7).

Raghavendra also made it to the final round of singles matches along with Gelletich, but he fell to Michigan senior Will Cooksey 6-1, 6-0.

Gelletich and Raghavendra were a dominant team in doubles, making it to the final round before ultimately falling to Cairo and Cooksey 7-6(2).

Antonescu and Kolyachev defeated Notre Dame seniors Yu Zhang and Jameson Corsillo in a close match, securing a 7-6(5) victory in the first round. However, the duo's first round success did not carry over into the second, as they lost to senior Max Bengtsson and sophomore Owen Megargee from Northwestern 7-6(4).

Indiana men's tennis will compete in two events this weekend. Sophomore Facundo Yunis and junior Jip van Assendelft will go to Tallahassee, Florida to compete in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Sectionals Championship.

Meanwhile, Braeden Gelletich, Nikola Kolyachev, Karan Raghavendra and Matteo Antonescu will join graduate student Michael Andre, junior Deacon Thomas, sophomore Ben Pomeranets and junior Luc Boulier in Madison, Wisconsin for the Big 10 Individual Championships.
