A case of rape, strangulation, confinement, aggravated battery and domestic battery with serious bodily injury was reported to IU Police Department on Monday.

The incident occurred Oct. 27 at Cypress Hall in Union Street Center, according to an email from IUPD Public Information Officer Hannah Skibba. The victim, an IU student, was treated at a local hospital for their injuries and was provided with support services.

The suspect is known by the reporting party, but the case is still under investigation, Skibba wrote in an email.

IU defines rape as nonconsensual penetration of the private body parts by an object or any body part of another person, or oral penetration by a sex organ of another person. There have been 18 cases of rape reported to IUPD since Aug. 21, according to the IUPD crime log.
