December rape reported from Teter Quad

A rape that occurred Dec. 5, 2023, at Teter Quadrangle was reported to the IU Police Department on Monday. 

The Title IX office reported the incident to IUPD, and the case has been referred to university officials for further review, IUPD Public Information Officer Hannah Skibba wrote in an email. The incident was not reported to IUPD by the individuals involved. 

IU defines rape as nonconsensual penetration of the private body parts by an object or any body part of another person, or oral penetration by a sex organ of another person. IU defines sexual assault as the nonconsensual subjection of another person to sexual penetration or the intentional touching of another person’s private body parts for the purpose of sexual arousal of either party without consent. 

Twelve rapes have been reported to IUPD since Aug. 21, according to the IUPD crime log.
