Indiana football head coach Curt Cignetti’s figurative trophy case keeps on growing.
Cignetti, who led the Hoosiers to an 11-1 record and a berth in the College Football Playoff, was named The Associated Press Coach of the Year on Tuesday. He’s also been named the Walter Camp Foundation Coach of the Year, Home Depot Coach of the Year, American Football Coaches Association Coach of the Year, Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year and The Sporting News Coach of the Year.
The national awards come after the Big Ten tabbed Cignetti as its conference coach of the year Dec. 3. Cignetti received $50,000 for winning Big Ten Coach of the Year and $100,000 for securing the national honor, according to the eight-year contract he signed Nov. 16.
Cignetti, who spent the previous five years as the head coach of James Madison University, has helped flip Indiana from a 3-9 record last season to the most wins in program history this year.
The 63-year-old Cignetti is the fourth Hoosier to win national coach of the year and the first since Tom Allen in 2020.
Indiana begins its quest for a national championship against the University of Notre Dame at 8 p.m. Friday at Notre Dame Stadium in South Bend, Indiana.
