Indiana football, which is in the midst of a historic season with a College Football Playoff berth, has landed a running back out of the transfer portal: Lee Beebe Jr.
Beebe Jr., who spent three seasons at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and entered the transfer portal Dec. 5, signed with Indiana, according to On3 Sports transfer portal reporter Pete Nakos’ X post Friday.
The Montgomery, Alabama, native redshirted his true freshman season before totaling 360 yards and four touchdowns last season. He rushed for 884 yards and seven touchdowns in his redshirt sophomore campaign while also catching 30 passes for 219 yards.
Despite Indiana preparing for its College Football Playoff First Round matchup with the University of Notre Dame on Dec. 20, it's also laying the groundwork for next season. Seventh-year senior Ty Son Lawton, sixth-year senior Solomon VanHorse and fifth-year senior Justice Ellison will each exhaust their eligibility at the end of this season. And with redshirt junior Elijah Green entering the transfer portal, the Hoosiers were slated to have just two returning scholarship running backs: redshirt junior Kaelon Black and freshman Khobie Martin.
But now, the Hoosiers have dipped into the portal to bring in Beebe Jr. for Indiana head coach Curt Cignetti’s second season in Bloomington. Beebe Jr. is the first player to join Indiana out of the portal.
