Indiana redshirt sophomore quarterback Tayven Jackson entered the transfer portal Saturday, according to On3 Sports’ Pete Nakos’ post on X.

Jackson made one start this season for the Hoosiers in their 31-27 victory over Washington on Oct. 27 in sixth-year senior quarterback Kurtis Rourke’s absence due to a thumb injury. He finished 11 for 19 for 124 yards alongside a touchdown and an interception.

Jackson saw action in seven of Indiana’s games this season, going 23 for 37 for 349 yards and four touchdowns and one interception. He also rushed for 73 yards and three touchdowns.

After spending his true freshman season at the University of Tennessee, Jackson transferred to Indiana ahead of the 2023 season. He battled with then-redshirt freshman Brendan Sorsby for the starting job, one he lost midway through the season.

Across the six games he took to the field in former Indiana head coach Tom Allen’s final season in Bloomington, Jackson completed 60.9% of his passes for 914 yards with just two touchdowns to five interceptions.

During his National Signing Day press conference Dec. 4, Indiana head coach Curt Cignetti said the Hoosiers have a pair of quarterbacks –– freshmen Tyler Cherry and Alberto Mendoza –– they “like.”

Cignetti also went on to say he plans to bring in a signal caller out of the portal. According to Nakos’ report Dec. 12, the Hoosiers are contenders to land University of California, Berkeley redshirt sophomore Fernando Mendoza –– the third-best quarterback in the portal according to 247 Sports, and Alberto’s older brother.

Jackson will now search for his third school to call home in his collegiate career. He has two seasons of eligibility remaining.
