An Indiana swimmer dives into the pool in a race against the University of Notre Dame on Oct. 23, 2024, at the Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatics Center in Bloomington. The IU women's swim and dive squad finished first at the Ohio State Invitational. 


So far the women's swim team has competed in an exhibition meet, a meet against University of Notre Dame, a meet against University of Texas, a meet against University of Cincinnati and an invitational at Ohio State. The Hoosiers are 2-1, with a loss to No. 2 Texas at Texas. They placed first on Nov. 22 and Nov. 23 of the Ohio State Invitational and second on Nov. 24. Top swimmers thus far in the season are junior Kristina Paegle, senior Anna Peplowski, senior Ching Hwee Gan, senior Kacey McKenna, sophomore Miranda Grana, senior Brearna Crawford, sophomore Ava Whitaker and sophomore Reese Tiltmann. The top divers are sophomore Ella Rosseli, sophomore Lily Witte and senior Skyler Liu. The Hoosiers look to face University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida on Jan. 3, 2025.

The Democratic National Convention was Aug. 19-22, 2024, at the United Center in Chicago. The convention featured well-known speakers including Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Jill and Joe Biden, Michelle and Barack Obama, Bernie Sanders, Tim Walz and Harris. The Chicks and P!NK performed on the final night of the convention. The Chicks sang the national anthem and P!NK sang her song "What About Us." Three months later, Harris conceded to Donald Trump following the election.

This took place on the third day of the Dunn Meadow pro-Palestine encampment that started on April 25, 2024. The encampment went on for 100 days, before a new IU expressive action policy came into effect and a fence was placed around the border of Dunn Meadow on Aug. 2, 2024. IU said it put up the fence while it made landscaping repairs. Then, 136 days later on Dec. 16, 2024, the fence around Dunn Meadow was removed and the meadow was reopened.

On the first day of the Democratic National Convention, police arrested 13 protesters. Protesters had put up tents in protest of the Israel-Hamas conflict, playing music, sharing signs and talking about other protest plans later in the week. At 6:45 p.m., over 100 police, at least 50 in riot gear, approached and asked the protesters to take down their tents. Officers said the protesters' permit expired at 6 p.m. Prior to this, 10 protesters had breached the outer perimeter of the Democratic Convention.


The protesters at Union Park took down their tents when police officers started to move forward and enclose the area.

Indiana men's soccer had 11 wins, five losses and five ties this season. It lost to Michigan in the Big Ten Tournament, but won against Akron in the first round of the NCAA tournament. The team then traveled to play Denver the next week in the Sweet 16, but lost 0-1. Over the season the team had 41 goals, 286 shots on goal and 38 assists.

This came 17 days before the pro-Palestine encampment started, which lasted 100 days. During that encampment, Indiana State Police and the Indiana University Police Department arrested at least 57 protesters. For 55 protesters, all charges they faced from when they were arrested in the initial days of the encampment were dropped. The encampment in Dunn Meadow continued until Aug. 2, 2024, when a fence was put up around the meadow.

This was the 34th annual running of the women's Little 500. Kappa Alpha Theta gained their ninth victory of all time in the race and their first since the 2018 Little 500. The team was joined by three others - Teter, Delta Gamma and Melanzana - as the only four teams to complete all 100 laps of the race.

Kane Brown opened his "Full Ride Tour" at Memorial Stadium with openers Clayton Anderson, Jessie Murph and Jon Pardi. Fans traveled from all over to see the show. "I actually came for Jessie Murph," Adrianna Book, who traveled from Fountain County, Indiana, said. But many thought Kane Brown was the highlight of the concert. "He's just overall perfect," said Book. "The perfect man, the perfect singer, love him."

This was the 73rd annual running of the men's Little 500 race. The Black Key Bulls won the race despite not even qualifying the year prior. The team was also one of only six to finish all 200 laps of the race, joined by Cutters, Delta Tau Delta, Sigma Phi Epsilon, Chi Alpha and Sigma Alpha Epsilon. The Little 500 races took place April 19 and 20, with the men's championship and Black Key Bulls victory coming on the April 20.

The 20-15 win over the Wolverines was the Hoosiers' third victory over Michigan since the 1987 season. It also moved the Hoosiers to 10-0 on the season for the team's first double digit win total in program history. Indiana would go on to close out the season 11-1, with a loss to Ohio State and a win over Purdue, landing them ranked No. 8 in the country. The Hoosiers earned the ten seed in the College Football Playoffs will face the University of Notre Dame on Dec. 21, 2024, in South Bend.

Indiana men's soccer started out the season shakily with a 2-3-4 record through the first nine games of the season, but got back on track finishing the regular season on a seven game winning streak, ending the season 7-1-2 in conference play. The Hoosiers won the Big Ten regular season championship, its 35th. The Hoosiers' success didn't last much longer however, losing to Michigan in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament and falling out of the NCAA tournament in the second round with a loss to Denver.

The Republican National Convention was July 15-18, 2024, in Milwaukee. All four days protesters and supporters alike gathered outside the entrance to the convention. Some people set up tables and sold merch, some people held signs protesting policy issues. Protesters and supporters often would get in verbal altercations, but nothing ever physically escalated.

The Hoosiers had a historic season led by new head coach Curt Cignetti. Through the heat, rain and snow flurries, Indiana went 11-1 for the first time in program history, only losing to Ohio State at Ohio Stadium. The team traveled to Pasadena, California, and played UCLA for the first time at the Rose Bowl. The Hoosiers won the Old Oaken Bucket for the first time since 2019 beating Purdue with the largest victory ever. The team was one of the first to become bowl-eligible this season and did not trail in a game until the match against Michigan State on Nov. 2, 2024. The Hoosiers are seeded to play in the first round of the College Football Playoffs on Friday night at University of Notre Dame. If they win, they will go onto the next round to play in the Sugar Bowl against No. 2 ranked University of Georgia.

The 2023-24 IU men's basketball team finished the season 19-14 overall, going 10-10 in Big Ten conference play. In that same season, then-redshirted senior guard Xavier Johnson played 20 games, averaging 7.6 points, 2.8 assists and 2.6 rebounds per game. Johnson went undrafted in the 2024 NBA draft and now plays for the Memphis Hustle of the NBA G-League, where averages 7.2 points per game on 32.9% from the field.
