Metered parking in Bloomington is free through at least Sunday.
Office of the Mayor Communications Director Desiree DeMolina wrote in an email the city decided not to require payment before last weekend’s weather due to the heavy snowfall.
That’s because the snow limited accessibility around parking meters, she wrote.
“It was our courtesy to visitors and residents while we keep working to clear things out and make parking more accessible,” DeMolina wrote.
The city will reassess the situation on Sunday to see if the snow has been cleared sufficiently around meters. DeMolina wrote, though, that long-term parking at these spots can interfere with crews trying to clear the snow.
Bloomington received 15.1 total inches of snow from the storms Jan. 5-6 and last Friday, according to the National Weather Service. Businesses and homeowners are required to remove snow and ice from their sidewalks within 24 hours of the end of snowfall, according to a city ordinance.
Residents can report uncleared snow and ice through the city’s uReport system.
