Federal student loans and Pell Grants are unaffected by the Trump administration’s attempted freeze on federal funds Monday.
Many posts on social media, including inaccurate information from advocacy groups and Democratic politicians, said that funding would halt such programs.
The spending freeze was set to go into effect at 5 p.m. Tuesday until a federal judge blocked the effort. The White House Office of Management and Budget ordered the freeze in a memo Monday, directing a temporary pause on “all activities related to obligation or disbursement of all federal financial assistance.”
A statement Tuesday from Federal Student Aid clarified that this order did not apply to federal student loans or Pell Grants. It also doesn’t apply to federal work-study programs.
The extent of the attempted freeze’s impact on Bloomington and IU are still unclear.
