Indiana track and field had a successful weekend as it won 22 out of 50 events at the Indiana Invitational on Jan. 17-18 at Harry Gladstein Fieldhouse.

On the track for the women, freshman Katelyn Henselmeier came in first for Indiana and achieved a season personal record in the 400-meter dash with a time of 55.64 seconds. In the 600-meter dash, sophomore Amelia Dodds, sophomore Cambell Wamsley and freshman Nola Somers Glenn showed their strength by sweeping the top three spots in the event. Additionally, the women managed to take up the top nine spots in the 1600-meter event, leaving little room for their competitors.

In the field, the women occupied the top three spots in high jump along with scoring a win in the shot put, weight throw, triple jump and long jump events.

The men also dominated on the track. Junior John Colquitt won his third straight 60-meter hurdles race with a time of 8.10 seconds. The men also swept the top three spots in the 60-meter dash, 200-meter dash and 1600-meter run, and the top four spots in the 800-meter run.

Sophomore Garrett Messer was dominant in the men’s heptathlon. He won five of the seven events and scored a personal best of 5,174 points for the win.

In the field, sophomore Deepak Laungani’s 2.06-meter high jump was an indoor personal best, earning him first place in the event. The Hoosiers were also victorious in pole vault and weight throw.

The Hoosiers will be back in action Jan. 24-25 at the Indiana State Fairgrounds in Indianapolis for the Crossroads of America Classic.
