The IU Police Department urged students to stay alert while navigating campus after two incidents of men targeting female students occurred Jan. 8 and Jan. 11, according to a public safety advisory shared Saturday.

A man was reported to have been taking pictures of sorority applicants on David Baker Avenue from a white van Jan. 8.

IUPD located the man that evening and banned him from the university for one year. He is not affiliated with IU and there are no criminal charges against him.

A different man attempted to convince a female student to get in his car by impersonating an IU ride service Jan. 11. The man, who drove a black SUV with an IU sticker on it, slowed down next to a female student on Eagleson Avenue near Seventh Street and “insisted the student get in the vehicle,” according to the public safety advisory.

He is described as white with short brown hair. IU Ride does not continue service until Jan. 13.

The public safety advisory issued Jan. 11 encouraged students to report any further suspicious behavior to IUPD. The blue light emergency phones on IU campus connect directly to the police.
