Local music performances this week in Bloomington

Welcome back, Hoosiers! It’s January and that means cool weather and even cooler shows in Bloomington. Here is what’s happening from Jan. 16-19 in the music scene: 

Under 21 performances 

Saturday, Jan. 18 

If you want to catch the jazz bug this weekend, you’re in luck. Postmodern Jazz Quartet will be performing Saturday at The Orbit Room for all ages! Music starts at 6 p.m. and should wrap up around 8:30 p.m. Student tickets are available for $5 with a valid student ID, general tickets start at $10 with a $1 service fee. A front table package for two will also be offered for $42. 

Sunday, Jan. 19 

If the cold weather is getting to you, there are some hot bands performing this week to warm you up. Alternative bands Sundaze, Arlen Gun Club, Mourning Star and The Reys will be playing at Bloomington’s own DIY venue Rotspot, located at 330 N. Roosevelt St. Doors open at 7:30 p.m., noise starts at 8 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $7 at the door. 

21+ Performances 

The Bluebird Nightclub is hosting a slew of bands this week. 

Thursday, Jan. 17 

Local six-piece rock band Opal will be rocking The Bluebird on Thursday. They will take the stage at 10 p.m. and tickets are available online for $5. 

Friday, Jan. 17 

Wanna sing along and dance to well-known hits by Chappell Roan and Taylor Swift? Energetic and electrifying Chicago- based band Rod Tuffcurls and the Bench Press stop on their tour of the Midwest at The Bluebird on Friday. Music and dancing will begin at 9 p.m. with tickets available online for $15. 

The Orbit Room will also be hosting a few shows this week to welcome back Hoosiers, starting off with “JammShack” on Friday. Artists set to perform are Joe Donnely, Sam Finley and Pam Maclaughlin. The performance starts at 6 p.m. and tickets are $10 with a $1 service fee. The Orbit room is also offering a front table package for two priced at $42. Tickets are available online. 

On Friday, it’s a double header with The Matriarch and Early Grey at . Doors open at 8 p.m. and music starts at 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 with a $1 service fee at the door. 

Saturday, Jan. 18 

Bloomington-based rock band Jukebox Luke will be performing Saturday at The Bluebird. The show begins at 9 p.m. Tickets are available online for $10. 

After the all ages jazz show Saturday, The Orbit Room is having Toe Jam Football, a band consisting of members from Six Foot Blonde and Wise John. This event is a benefit for The Orbit Room’s recent sound improvement. Doors open at 9 p.m. Tickets are $10 with a $1 service fee and a front table package for two for $42.

Sunday, Jan. 19 

Last but not least, performing at The Bluebird this week is Booze Cruise on Sunday. Show begins at 9 p.m. and tickets are available online for $5.
