Monroe County warming stations to open this week

With winter temperatures setting in, the Monroe County Emergency Management Agency announced Monday that 10 warming stations will open on Jan. 8-9, according to an email from Deputy Director Justin Baker. These stations are for sheltering from the cold only, and food, showers and areas for sleep are not available, according to the email.  

Seven locations will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.:  

Bloomington Fire Station 1 (Headquarters) - 300 E. Fourth St., Bloomington. 

Monroe Fire Protection District - Perry - 3953 S. Kennedy Drive, Bloomington.  

Monroe Fire Protection District - Clear Creek - 9094 S. Strain Ridge Road, Bloomington. 

Monroe Fire Protection District - Indiana Creek - 8019 S. Rockport Road, Bloomington.  

Monroe Fire Protection District - Van Buren 2130 S. Kirby Road, Bloomington.  

Monroe Fire Protection District - Bloomington - 5081 N. Old State Road 37, Bloomington. 

Ellettsville Fire Department Headquarters - 5080 W. State Road 46, Ellettsville. 

Three additional locations will be open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.: 

Downtown Branch Library - 303 E. Kirkwood Ave., Bloomington.  

Southwest Branch Library - 890 W. Gordon Pike, Bloomington. 

Ellettsville Branch Library - 600 W. Temperance St., Ellettsville.
