The IU chapter of sorority Sigma Delta Tau was placed on the university’s cease and desist list effective Jan. 28. All organizational activities are suspended indefinitely.
According to IU’s disciplinary log, it was suspended for hazing. This comes after the 2025 rush process ended with bid day on Jan. 19.
Sigma Delta Tau was previously on disciplinary probation from May 11, 2021, to March 31, 2022, for endangering others, alcohol, non-compliance with the Office of Sorority and Fraternity Life and violations of university and county COVID-19 policies.
IU defines cease and desist as an interim measure placed upon organizations while an ongoing threat or immediate investigation is taking place.
Two other organizations are currently on cease and desist: the Indian Student Association, since Oct. 1, 2024, and fraternity Sigma Chi since Nov. 5, 2024.
Sigma Delta Tau is the first organization to receive disciplinary action this year.
