The water main break at the intersection of East Third Street and South College Mall Road still has still not been isolated as of 10:15 p.m. Friday, according to City of Bloomington Utilities.

Another break cut off water from 132 addresses, which are also under a precautionary boil water advisory. Check here to see where is impacted and more information.

The break by College Mall is impacting one of Bloomington’s busiest intersections. Alternate routes to get around the break include East Moores Pike and East 10th Street. The intersection of East Second Street and South College Mall Road is also open.

Traffic is being let through, methodically, and around the crew working on fixing the issue. Holly McLauchlin, the utilities department’s communications manager, said traffic has calmed significantly at the intersection as of 10:15 p.m. Friday.

The workers will remain busy, however, as another water main break occurred by the Twin Lakes Recreation Center on the west side of town. 132 addresses are without water due to that break and are under a precautionary boil water advisory until 11 a.m. Sunday, unless notified otherwise.

Water main breaks are more common in winter, as soil freezes and thaws, McLauchlin said.

She said the crew will continue working through the night until the break is fixed.
