The City of Bloomington’s Board of Public Works agreed to temporarily close the protected bike lanes on East Seventh Street between North Grant Street and North Dunn Street at its meeting Monday.
The closure, set to begin Feb. 17 and last through Nov. 21, will accommodate a redevelopment project at the former Indiana University Poplars Building site.
The sidewalk on the south side of East Seventh Street adjacent to the project will also close. Pedestrian and cyclist detours will be in place for the duration of the project, according to a City of Bloomington press release.
The press release acknowledges the inconvenience of the closure but said the city staff concluded that the bike lane and sidewalk closure would be the best to operate a crane and other construction equipment at 400 E. Seventh Street.
Sidewalks surrounding the construction site on North Grant Street and North Dunn Street will remain open. However, adjustments to the traffic set-up could be made as the city sees fit.
