With 12 minutes remaining in the game, Luke Goode chased down a three-quarters court pass before elevating for a left-handed layup. For a split-second, the senior forward’s shot hung atop the orange-painted rim. Moments later — it sunk through the white netting while a chorus of Hoosier faithful roared in unison.

Goode’s fastbreak bucket capped off a 28-3 run that turned Indiana men’s basketball’s 12-point deficit into a 13-point lead against in-state Purdue on Sunday afternoon inside Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall. Ultimately, the Hoosiers second-half surge paved the way for their 73-58 victory over the Boilermakers — Indiana’s first win in the rivalry since Feb. 25, 2023.

Junior forward Malik Reneau led the Hoosiers’ winning effort with 15 points and six rebounds, a performance that eclipsed the 1000-point mark of his Cream and Crimson career.  Fifth-year senior guard Trey Galloway matched Reneau with 15 points of his own to go along with a team-high nine assists.

Indiana scored by committee in a back-and-forth first half as all five Hoosier starters scored within the game's opening five minutes. Due in part to a 9 for 15 start from the field, Indiana led by as many as 6 points in the first period of play. However, a 24-6 scoring run to close out the half helped give the Boilermakers a 37-25 advantage entering halftime.

The Hoosiers opened the second half with a lightning-fast response, outscoring Purdue 14-2 in just over four minutes of play to tie the game at 39 apiece. Powered by its newfound momentum, Indiana made nine straight field goals to take a 53-40 lead with under 12 minutes remaining in the game.

For the rest of the second half, the Hoosiers’ advantage never sunk below double digits.

Indiana will stay in Bloomington to host Penn State (15-13, 5-12 Big Ten) at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday night inside Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall. The Hoosiers’ second matchup against the Nittany Lions this season will be broadcast on the Big Ten Network.
