Indiana track and field finishes strong doubleheader weekend

Indiana track and field was on the road this weekend for the Meyo Invitational in South Bend, Indiana, and the Midwest Classic in Indianapolis. 

Starting off with the Meyo Invitational, freshman Maddie Rocchio and senior Mariah Wehrle ran personal bests in the women’s 3,000-meter dash with times of 9:42.67 and 9:12.43, earning them fourth and fifth place, respectively.  

Freshman Michaela Quinn also achieved a personal best, finishing the women's 1600-meter dash in 4:52.84 and placing 19th. 

In the women's 800-meter dash, sophomore Amelia Dodds placed fourth with a time of 2:06.42, earning her a personal best and the third fastest time in the Big Ten this season. 

On the men's side of the Meyo Invitational, junior Keefer Soehngen got the Hoosiers’ first win of the day by running the 800-meter dash in 1:49.82. 

Senior Martin Segurola clinched another victory for Indiana in the men's 1600-meter dash with a time of 3:56.70, the third fastest in school history.  

At the Midwest Classic, graduate student Tamer Saleh opened with a win for the men in the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.79. 

Not long after, freshman Daquon Tate ran the men's 400-meter dash in 47.86, earning him second place. Freshman Cameron Mullens was not far behind Tate, placing third in the 400-meter with a time of 48:37. Both men earned personal bests in the event.  

In the field for the men, freshman Vince Davero placed first in the long jump with a jump of 7.4 meters. Additionally, freshman Dane Sebert placed second in the shot put with a throw of 17.12 meters. 

For the women's side of the Midwest Classic, freshman Ryann Parish placed third in the 400-meter dash with a time of 56:31, her personal best.  

In the field, the women had several strong finishes. Junior Makayla Hunter won the women's shot put with a throw of 17.14 meters, making her the sixth best in the event in program history. 

In the pit, senior Mahogany Jenkins and junior Kelly Moran finished second and third in the women’s triple jump with jumps of 12.39 meters and 12.06 meters, respectively.  

Indiana enjoys a weekend off before traveling to Chicago on Feb. 14 for the Windy City Classic.
