Indiana track and field claims 8 wins at Windy City Classic

Indiana secured a strong performance at the Windy City Classic, opening the meet with four wins Friday and another four wins Saturday.  

Graduate student Tamer Saleh started out strong for the men with a dominant win in the collegiate 200-meter dash, finishing with a time of 21.21 seconds. Senior Trelee Banks-Rose also had a dominant performance in the men’s invitational 200m dash, finishing third with a personal best time of 21 seconds.  

The men additionally performed well in middle and long distance this past weekend. Freshman CJ Martin brought home a victory for the Hoosiers in the men’s collegiate 600-meter dash, and senior Martin Segurola won the men’s invitational 1600-meter dash with a personal record time of 3:56.43 

Freshman Tony Provenzano and junior Nolan Satterfield stuck together in the 3000-meter dash, with both getting new personal records. Provenzano and Satterfield placed first and second with times of 8:05.46 and 8:07.56, respectively 

In the field for the men, Indiana had two top five finishers in the shot put. Freshmen Seth Brosseau and Dane Sebert placed third and fourth with throws of 16.96 and 16.86 meters, respectively.  

Senior Tyler Reyna brought home another victory for Indiana in the weight throw, with a throw of 19.10 meters.  

Lastly for the men, senior Tyler Carrel tied for second in the pole vault with his personal record of 5.47 meters 

Moving on to the women, Indiana secured two top five finishers in the 800-meter dash. Freshman Nola Somers Glenn got the win for the Hoosiers and a personal record for herself, running the 800m in 2:08.70. Senior Taylor Fox also ran a personal best, placing fifth with a time of 2:11.17 

The women had another top five finish in the 400-meter relay, with sophomore Cambell Wamsley, freshman Veronica Hargrave, junior Kylee Poulton and junior Jania Hodges finishing fourth with a time of 3:45.85 

The women produced several dominant performances in the field. Junior Makayla Hunter set a new personal record and claimed a victory for the Hoosiers in the shot put with a throw of 17.32 meters. Hunter’s throw was in the top 20 in the nation.  

For the women’s triple jump, junior Kelly Moran set a personal best with a jump of 12.28 meters, moving her to seventh place in school history for the event 

Indiana is once again on the road next weekend for the Alex Wilson Invitational on Feb. 21and 22 in South Bend, Indiana. This is the Hoosiers’ last meet before the Big Ten Indoor Track Championships on Feb 28 and March 1 in Indianapolis.
