Indiana women’s tennis head coach Gabrielle Moore is in her first year at the helm of the program. Despite arriving in Bloomington in June, Moore has put together a highly touted recruiting class for the 2025 season.
Moore’s first signing class at Indiana was ranked No. 23 in the nation by the Tennis Recruiting Network on Feb. 3. This ranking marks the highest class for the program since 2020, when it was ranked No. 19.
The highly ranked class includes two top-40 recruits in the circuit in Ameia Sorey and Hi’ilani Williams.
The addition of these recruits is a “step in the right direction” for the Indiana program as they are athletes who will buy in to working hard and fitting the new culture.
“I think as a staff that was something we wanted to focus on, not just great talent, but girls that are going to fit into Indiana’s culture for our program,” Moore said. “They want to be here and make a difference and an impact and that's really important in to making us better.”
Sorey is a blue-chip recruit — a player who is currently ranked in the top 25 or one who has been ranked in the top 25 multiple times during the six-month recruiting period prior to ranking release. She is currently ranked the 30th-best player in the nation, and the sixth-best player in Florida.
Sorey has won three International Tennis Federation singles titles paired with one doubles title. In 2023, she was named Miami’s Herald Dade Tennis Player of the Year and won the Florida High School Sports Association State Championship in singles.
Williams, the second member of the class, is a five-star recruit who is ranked No. 36 nationally and holds the No.1 ranking in Arizona.
Williams was a member of the 2024 United States Tennis Association All-Southwest team and was the G18’s Southwest Junior Section Closed Champion during the UTSA National Team Championships.
Indiana’s No. 23 ranking joins four other schools in the Big Ten to have a top 25 recruiting class for the 2025 season.
Other Big Ten schools that have a class in the top 25 are UCLA (No. 3), Illinois (No. 16), Wisconsin (No. 21), Michigan (No. 22). Both Maryland and Ohio State also received votes.
