PRESS RELEASE: International Women's Day Conference at IU Bloomington aims to empower women locally and globally

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Indiana University’s Office of International Services is hosting a one-day International Women’s Day Conference, aimed at empowering women through the lens of education, leadership development and social justice. 

The theme of the conference is Future in Focus: Understanding Women's Strength & Unlocking Potential, highlights resilience, leadership, and innovation. It takes place from noon to 7 p.m. March 8 at the IU School of Education building on the IU Bloomington campus and is free and open to the public. 

Registration is required and available online.

Mary Maker will serve as the conference keynote speaker. Ms. Maker is a South Sundanese refugee who since 2018 has been working with the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) as well as being appointed as a Goodwill Ambassador in 2023. She is an activist who works to inspire others to take action in the world while encouraging them to become globally minded and build communities of change to positively impact others. Her keynote address will inspire and uplift as we look into the future. 

The conference will feature three break-out sessions, featuring five to six sessions each. Topics include financial wellness, career advancement, confidence and self-esteem, supporting the LGBTQ+ community, and more. 

The conference will wrap up with refreshments and an opportunity for networking along with free professional headshots. 

The International Women’s Day Conference is sponsored by the Yaolin Wang Endowment, the IU Global, IU , and the Office of International Services
