Bloomington, IN — The Bloomington Opera Camp™ 2025 made its grand debut on February 10, 2025, with an electrifying launch event that united Bloomington's artistic organizations, community groups, and arts enthusiasts. Hosted at the prestigious Jacobs School of Music’s Office of Entrepreneurship and Career Development (OECD), the event showcased an extraordinary evening of collaboration, inspiration, and a shared commitment to the transformative power of the arts.
Rooted in three guiding principles—Art is Everywhere, We Are All Artists, and Society at the Center of Performing Arts Sustainability—Maestro Diego Barbosa-Vásquez officially introduced Opera Camp™ to the Bloomington community. With the exciting success of this event, registration for Bloomington Opera Camp™ 2025 is now open! This innovative, inclusive summer program invites individuals of all ages (7–70+) and skill levels—from beginners to professionals—to collaborate in creating and performing opera together.

A Transformative Summer Experience Awaits
The Bloomington Opera Camp™ (BOC) will take place May 27 – June 7, 2025, at Harmony School. Participants will embark on an immersive artistic journey encompassing singing, acting, painting, stage design, instrumental performance, production, arts administration, and more—all culminating in a fully staged opera production.
For its inaugural Bloomington season, the BOC proudly presents:
"El Imperio de la Luz – The Empire of Light"
An original opera inspired by Inca mythology and Peruvian culture, featuring a multilingual libretto in English, Spanish, and Quechua.

This initiative is led by internationally renowned Maestro Diego Barbosa-Vásquez, whose postdoctoral research in Performing Arts Sustainability has examined over 150 performing arts institutions worldwide to develop artistic programs that are socially, financially, and ecologically sustainable.
