LETTER TO THE EDITOR: End the boos to help IU hoops

Hey, IU students and alums, including those who questionably call themselves fans: Stop the booing!

The rude message got through. As the IDS’ solid reporting today indicates, Woodson will be gone after this year.

IU has already started the search for the next coach, and a fan base that boos its coach and its players earns no points with good coaches who would consider the job.

Besides, Woodson does not deserve the chants that rained down at home. He has not been the answer to the coaching job, but he is a quality human being who has given much to IU basketball as a former player, supportive alum and dedicated coach.

And especially stop booing players such Trey Galloway — in Assembly Hall. That kid has played hard and sacrificed his body. No current player has sacrificed more than Galloway.

Everyone wants a better men’s team — and is grateful for the wonderful women’s team, especially after 15 3s Thursday night — but booing will not produce improved performance.

Merv Hendricks is an IU alumnus and currently lives in Mooresville, Indiana.
