These Bloomington restaurants received critical violations in recent food inspections

Over 40 restaurants and businesses received critical violations in food inspections from late November through January. 

Critical violations are considered likely to directly contribute to a foodborne illness, according to the Monroe County Health Department. 

 

AMC Showplace Theater No. 12, 2929 W. Third St., Jan. 27 

The health department completed an inspection following a fire at the facility, Environmental Health Specialist Camryn Livingston wrote in an email. 

An Indiana Daily Student reporter observed a fire at the theater three days before this report. 

American Legion Post No. 18, 1800 W. Third St., Dec. 18 

Two violations were due to raw chicken and beef stored above raw salmon and a prep cooler not at the proper temperature. 

Amvets Post No. 2000, 5227 W. Airport Road, Dec. 6 

Two violations were due to potentially hazardous foods not held at the proper temperature and potentially hazardous foods without a date mark. 

Applebee’s Neighborhood Grill and Bar, 2800 E. Third St., Dec. 18 

One violation was due to a backflow hazard at a three-bay sink with a chemical dispenser. 

According to Angi, backflow occurs when water, often wastewater, goes the opposite direction, sometimes polluting clean water. 

Asuka 2632, E. Third St., Dec. 19 

Four violations were due to two chemical sanitizer buckets without the proper chemical concentration, utensils in a hand sink by a walk-in freezer, a pest control device above a food prep table and bulk foods with no protective covers in the walk-in freezer. 

Bedrak Cafe, 409 S. Walnut St., Dec. 5 

Two violations were due to an expired certified food manager certificate and toxins stored above an ice machine bin. 

Blooming Thai, 405 E. Fourth St., Dec. 9 

Two violations were due to raw meat stored above vegetables and a hand sink being used for something other than hand washing. 

Bub’s Burgers and Ice Cream, 480 N. Morton St., Dec. 2 

One violation was due to a dish machine not dispensing sanitizer properly. 

Bucceto’s Pizza and Pasta West, 350 S. Liberty Drive, Dec. 9 

One violation was due to potentially hazardous foods without date marks. 

Buffalo Wild Wings, 1350 W. Bloomfield Road, Dec. 16 

Two violations were due to four sanitizer buckets without the proper chemical concentration and beef patties not being held at the proper temperature. 

Carson’s BBQ and Catering, 3878 W. Third St., Dec. 18 

One violation was due to potentially hazardous foods without date marks. 

Casa Brava Authentic Mexican Cuisine No. 2616 – West, 3482 W. Third St., Dec. 19 

Two violations were due to raw chicken stored above vegetables and fruit and queso not being held at the right temperature. 

China Star Buffet, 4641 W. Richland Plaza, Dec. 10 

Two violations were due to vegetables not being held at the right temperature and chemical sanitizer buckets without the proper chemical concentration. 

Chow Bar, 216 S. Indiana Ave., Dec. 17 

One violation was due to raw meat stored above vegetables and ready-to-go foods. 

Circle K, 527 E. Third St., Dec. 17 

One violation was due to potentially hazardous foods not being held at the proper temperature. 

Domo Steak and Sushi, 106 S. Franklin Road, Dec. 19 

One violation was due to a walk-in cooler not at 41 degrees Fahrenheit.  

The health department reported no violations during a follow-up inspection Dec. 27. 

El Ranchero ll, 2100 S. Liberty Drive, Dec. 6 

Four violations were due to raw meat stored above vegetables, potentially hazardous foods not being held at the proper temperature, food without a date mark in a walk-in cooler and chemical sanitizer without the proper chemical concentration. 

The health department reported no violations during a follow-up inspection Dec. 16. 

Fresh Thyme Market No. 215, 2812 E. Third St., Jan. 24 

One violation was due to chemical sanitizer without the proper chemical concentration. 

Hoosier Seoulmate, 1614 W. Third St., Dec. 11 

One violation was due to chemical sanitizer without the proper chemical concentration. 

Jiffy Treet Inc, 4727 W. State Road 46, Dec. 3 

One violation was due to potentially hazardous foods without date marks.  

K- Bap, 340 S. Walnut St. Suite 4, Dec. 5 

Two violations were due to an expired food certified manager certificate and refrigerated foods held for over a day without date marks.  

La Charreada, 1720 N. Walnut St., Dec. 13 

Four violations were due to no person in charge at the facility during operational hours, five cans with dents in them, potentially hazardous foods not held at the proper temperature and chemical sanitizer without the proper chemical concentration. 

LongFei Chinese Restaurant, 113 S. Grant St., Dec. 10 

Three violations were due to raw meat stored above vegetables, potentially hazardous foods without date marks and a dish machine not dispensing proper sanitizer.  

Mr. Tokyo Inc, 530 E. Kirkwood Ave. Suite 105, Dec. 17 

Two violations were due to raw meat stored above vegetables and ready-to-eat foods and no chemical sanitizer readily available. 

Mura Sushi, 1793 E. 10th St., Dec. 18 

One violation was due to raw meat stored above vegetables.  

My Thai Cafe and Sushi Bar, 3316 W. Third St., Dec. 19 

One violation was due to no person in charge at the facility.  

Red Restaurant, 1402 N. Walnut St., Dec. 9 

One violation was due to no chemical sanitizer being available for use.  

Rongcheng Asian Cuisine, 2652 E. 10th St., Dec. 18 

Two violations were due to refrigerated, potentially hazardous food without date markings and a dish machine not dispensing sanitizer with the proper chemical concentration. 

Sahm’s at Eagle Pointe, 2250 E. Pointe Road, Nov. 21 

Two violations were due to chemical sanitizer not being readily available and flies observed in the kitchen area.  

The health department reported no violations during a follow-up inspection Nov. 27. 

Sakura Japanese Restaurant, 895 S. College Mall Road, Jan. 29 

Two violations were due to the presence of live insects in the food prep area and raw salmon stored above ready-to-eat foods. 

The health department reported no violations during follow-up inspections Jan. 30 and 31. 

Siam House, 430 E. Fourth St., Dec. 10 

Two violations were due to raw meats stored above vegetables and no date markings on refrigerated foods held for over a day.  

Smithville Food Mart, 7148 S. Fairfax Road, Jan. 17 

Two violations were due to a hand sink blocked by an unused coffee machine and an employee making barehand contact with ready-to-eat food. 

Sushi Bar, 2522 E. 10th St., Dec. 18 

One violation was due to raw meat stored above vegetables and ready-to-eat foods.  

Taqueria Acapulco, 107 N. College Ave. Suite 2, Dec. 3 

One violation was due to a hand sink being used for something other than hand washing. 

Target, 2966 E. Third St., Jan. 31 

One violation was due to a deli cooler with potentially hazardous food held above the proper temperature. The food was removed and a work order for the cooler was started during the inspection. 

Texas Roadhouse, 110 S. Franklin Road, Dec. 18 

One violation was due to potentially hazardous foods not being held at the proper temperature.

One violation was due to potentially hazardous foods not being held at the proper temperature. 

Turkuaz Restaurant, 301 E. Third St., Dec. 4 

One violation was due to potentially hazardous foods not being held at the proper temperature. 

Uncle Wang’s Alley, 300 E. Third St., Dec. 4 

Three violations were due to raw meat stored above vegetables, no chemical sanitizer being available and a hand sink being used for something other than hand washing. 

Village Inn, 3619 W. State Road 46, Dec. 3 

Three violations were due to a cooler not at the proper temperature, chemical sanitizer for a dishwasher without the proper chemical concentration and living and dead pests within the facility. 

WingStop, 921 S. College Mall Road, Jan. 13 

One violation was due to an employee making barehand contact with ready-to-eat foods.  

Z&C Teriyaki and Sushi, 430 E. Kirkwood Ave. No. F, Dec. 9 

One violation was due to raw meats stored above vegetables.
