IDS Staff Receives Awards at the College Media Association National Spring Convention

 The Indiana Daily Student and Arbutus yearbook earned 11 awards in the David L. Adams Apple Awards competition, which were announced Saturday, March 1, at the College Media Association national spring convention in New York City.

The IDS earned three first place awards in the categories of Best Multimedia Package, Best News Photography and Best Social Media Engagement. The Apple Awards are named in honor of the longtime director of the IDS.

IDS co-editor-in-chiefs Marissa Meador and Jacob Spudich, managing editor Tory Basile and creative director Alayna Wilkening attended the convention with Director of Student Media Jim Rodenbush. Meador and Wilkening participated in a keynote panel discussion, "Trickle-down Trump: How the President's attacks on the press can affect you -- and what you can do about it." 

“I am so grateful for the opportunity to share the IDS’ experience responding to public pressure from now-Lt. Governor Micah Beckwith as well as guidance for how smaller schools can resist attempted censorship,” said Meador, reflecting on her experience. 

The panel, hosted by Michael Koretzky of the Society Professional Journalists also included Jonathan Gaston-Falk from the Student Press Law Center and Lindsie Rank from Foundation for Individual Right and Express (FIRE).
