Indiana men’s basketball guard Kanaan Carlyle enters transfer portal

Indiana men’s basketball sophomore guard Kanaan Carlyle entered the transfer portal Wednesday, according to multiple reports.

Carlyle, who transferred from Stanford University in April 2024, averaged 4 points, 1.6 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game in his lone season with the Hoosiers. He made 25 appearances and started the first six games of the year before being demoted to a bench role.

The 6-foot-3, 182-pound Carlyle arrived in Bloomington with high expectations. He made the All-Pac-12 Freshman Team in 2023-24 after averaging 11.5 points, 2.7 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game for the Cardinal.

However, Carlyle struggled to find his scoring rhythm at Indiana. He reached double figures in points only three times, and just once in Big Ten play. The Atlanta native shot 28.9% from the field, 24.3% from distance and went 6-for-14 shooting at the free throw line.

Carlyle is the sixth Hoosier to enter the transfer portal since the season ended March 16. He joins sophomore guard Gabe Cupps, junior forward Malik Reneau, sophomore forward Mackenzie Mgbako, redshirt freshman guard Jakai Newton and redshirt sophomore guard Myles Rice.

Cupps announced Wednesday he’s transferring to Ohio State. None of the other Hoosiers have made final decisions about their next destination.

Between transfers and graduations, freshman forward Bryson Tucker is the lone scholarship player remaining on Indiana’s roster. The Hoosiers have one high school commitment from four-star forward Trent Sisley, who has reaffirmed his decision since Indiana hired head coach Darian DeVries on March 18.

Senior forward Luke Goode is applying for a fifth year and has expressed interest in returning to Bloomington if he’s granted the additional season.
