Indiana men’s basketball redshirt sophomore guard Myles Rice is entering the transfer portal, his agency, PNW Sports Group, told the Field of 68 Wednesday.

He is the fifth Hoosier to enter the portal since the team fell short of an NCAA Tournament appearance March 16. Rice, formerly at Washington State University, is entering the portal for the second time in as many years with two more seasons left of eligibility.

The speedy guard averaged 10.1 points, 2.8 assists and 2.8 rebounds per game in his one season at Indiana. A team captain, Rice started the Hoosiers’ first 24 games of the 2024-25 campaign. He started just one of their final eight matchups to close out the year.

Rice arrived in Bloomington with lofty expectations, as the reigning Pac-12 Freshman of the Year and a member of the All-Pac-12 First Team. He was ranked as the No. 10 point guard in last season’s transfer class, according to On3.

Despite his anticipated arrival, Rice’s season encapsulated the team’s inability to live up to its preseason predictions. Indiana opened the season ranked No. 17 in The Associated Press poll but missed the NCAA Tournament for the second straight season.

Rice joins junior forward Malik Reneau and sophomore forward Mackenzie Mgbako as Hoosiers that started a majority of their appearances now in the transfer portal since head coach Darian DeVries was hired March 18.
