After 12 neutral site games and five away games, Indiana softball will finally be home at Andy Mohr Field to kick off the Hoosier Classic on Friday.
The Hoosiers enter the tournament on a two-game losing streak and a 12-5 overall record. This weekend is an opportunity for the Cream and Crimson to pick up multiple wins against struggling opponents, as they are the only team in the tournament with a winning record.
Indiana will open up its weekend on Friday with a double header against IU Indianapolis at 3 p.m. and Bowling Green State University at 5 p.m.
The Jaguars have not beaten the Hoosiers since March 23, 2003, and are 1-4 against the Hoosiers all time. IU Indy has struggled as of late, losing its last seven games as it sits at 3-13.
Indiana will finish out Friday with a matchup against Bowling Green, which comes into the tournament looking to snap its six-game losing streak. The Hoosiers have never lost to the Falcons in 12 all-time matchups. Bowling Green has gotten off to a tough start to the season with a 3-13 record.
On Saturday, the Hoosiers will start play at 2 p.m. against Western Michigan University. Despite an eight-game losing streak and a 5-14 overall record, the Broncos are battle tested this season, having already played multiple top 25 opponents. On Feb. 7, Western Michigan lost to the then-No. 17 University of Arizona 6-14 in the Candrea Classic. On March 1, the Broncos lost to the then-No. 3 University of Florida, 2-10.
Rounding out Saturday, the Hoosiers will play University of Illinois Chicago at 4 p.m. Indiana has already defeated UIC this season by three runs when the teams faced off in the Jeannine McHaney Memorial Classic on Feb. 21.
On Feb. 4, the Flames announced head coach Lynn Curylo would no longer serve as the head coach, effective immediately. The announcement was made just three days before their season opener. Assistant coach Jamie Buska has taken over to serve as interim head coach. The Flames head into the tournament on an 11-game losing streak with a 4-15 overall record.
Indiana will finish out play in the Hoosier Classic at 12 p.m. Sunday in another matchup with Bowling Green. This weekend serves as an opportunity for Indiana to take advantage of the current struggles of its weekend opponents and bounce back from two straight losses.
All games can be streamed on Big Ten+.
