IU Student Advocates Office Director Brandon Shurr resigned from the Monroe County school board with no explanation March 13, according to B Square Bulletin.
The school board is currently searching for a new member for the District 7 seat.
MCCSC Superintendent Markay Winston shared the news during a board meeting Tuesday evening, according to Indiana Public Media.
First elected in 2018, Shurr has held both the vice president and president positions and was with the school board amid the development of the 2021-2025 strategic plan, according to Winston.
Winston thanked Shurr in the board meeting for his “dedication and service to the students, families, staff and community during his nearly six years as a board of school trustee.”
Board President April Hennessey said the board was officially informed by the Clerk of Courts Nicole Browne on March 19 about Shurr’s departure.
In accordance with Indiana code, MCCSC is required by state law to find a replacement within 30 days, before a Monroe County circuit judge assigns the position.
Both Bloomington and Perry townships are part of District 7. MCCSC has supplied a map of the district boundaries. Community members inside are invited to apply.
Applications are due at 5 p.m. Thursday, March 27 and must be emailed to kbutcher@mccsc.edu or mailed to this address:
