A series of crimes –– aggravated battery, domestic injury, rape with an object and domestic battery –– are reported to have taken place at Union Street Center in December 2024, according to the IU Police Department.
IU’s Title IX office sent an account of these crimes to the IUPD on April 15. Title IX mandates all university instructors, advisors, coaches, residential hall staff, employees and supervisors to report instances of sexual violence or misconduct.
The case at Union Street Center was not reported by the individuals involved according to IUPD, meaning it’s likely a mandated reporter or a peer alerted IUPD.
Confidential victim advocates are employees at IU that can help students who have experienced sexual violence navigate their situation. CVAs are not mandated reporters, allowing students to remain anonymous if they wish.
IUPD Public Information Officer Hannah Cornett said this case has been reported to university officials for review.
