Indiana football tight end Sam West is entering the transfer portal, he announced Tuesday night in a post on Xt. West has three years of eligibility remaining.
“I want to thank everyone at Indiana for an incredible past two years,” West wrote in the post. “I’ll always hold my time here in high regard and value the experiences and relationships I’ve built.”
The Greensburg, Indiana, native played in two games as a true freshman in 2023 before redshirting. He appeared in all 13 games in 2024, playing mostly on special teams. He caught one pass for 37 yards in the Hoosiers’ 52-14 over the University of North Carolina at Charlotte on Sept. 21.
During spring practice, Indiana head coach Curt Cignetti said West received snaps at slot receiver out of necessity as the Hoosiers had only seven scholarship receivers available.
With West’s departure, Indiana closes the spring with five tight ends on its roster for this fall: senior Holden Staes, sixth-year senior Riley Nowakowski, fifth-year senior James Bomba and freshmen Blake Thiry and Andrew Barker.
