The University of Texas has hired former Indiana men’s basketball assistant coach Kenya Hunter for the same role, according to Field of 68 insider Jeff Goodman’s X post Friday.
Hunter will join Texas head coach Sean Miller’s staff after five seasons in Bloomington. The two spent four years together at Xavier University from 2004-07, and Hunter’s first year at Indiana came in 2020 under head coach Archie Miller, who is Sean’s brother.
When Mike Woodson replaced Miller as Indiana’s head coach in March 2021, he retained Hunter as an assistant. Hunter spent the past three as an associate head coach for the Hoosiers.
In addition to his stops at Indiana and Xavier, Hunter was an assistant coach at the University of Connecticut from 2018-20, Nebraska from 2013-18 and Georgetown University from 2007-13.
He served as the Director of Basketball Operations at North Carolina State University from 2000-04, a stint that followed his first coaching opportunity as an assistant at alma mater Duquesne University from 1998-2000.
Hunter played 103 games at Duquesne from 1992-96, serving as a team captain three consecutive seasons to close his career.
Now, Hunter heads to Austin, Texas, while new Indiana head coach Darian DeVries turns elsewhere to fill out his staff.
