After four years on Indiana men’s basketball’s coaching staff, Yasir Rosemond is headed south.

Louisiana State University men’s basketball coach Matt McMahon announced in a press release Monday the Tigers have hired Rosemond as an assistant coach, pending final background checks and approval from the LSU Board of Supervisors.

“I am really excited to welcome Yasir Rosemond to our coaching staff,” McMahon said in the release. “He is a talented coach, proven developer of players, and a terrific recruiter. Yasir has recruited and coached multiple NBA players throughout his successful career. His experience at Indiana, Alabama, Georgia and Oregon will benefit our program tremendously and I look forward to Coach Rosemond’s impact at LSU.”

A fixture on each of former Indiana head coach Mike Woodson’s coaching staffs in Bloomington, Rosemond spent the past three seasons as an associate head coach.

Amid Woodson stepping down at the end of the season and the Hoosiers hiring Darian DeVries as their new head coach March 18, Rosemond was available for employment elsewhere — and he’s the first of Woodson’s three primary assistants to land a new opportunity.

The Atlanta native has extensive experience as an assistant coach. Before joining Woodson’s staff, Rosemond made several stops as an assistant, including at the University of Alabama from 2017-19, the University of Georgia from 2014-17, Samford University from 2012-14, Seattle University from 2010-11 and Oregon from 2007-10.

“I’m beyond excited and incredibly grateful for the opportunity to join the LSU Basketball program,” Rosemond said in the release. “Having previously coached at Alabama and Georgia, I know how special the SEC is, and to now be part of LSU’s incredible tradition is truly an honor. I can’t wait to get started, support our student-athletes, and give everything I have to this team and community. Let’s get to work. Geaux Tigers!”

Rosemond played four years of college basketball, the last two of which came at Oregon from 1997-99. After graduating from Oregon, he played four seasons of professional basketball in Brazil before beginning his coaching journey in 2003 at Redlands Community College in El Reno, Oklahoma.

Indiana, meanwhile, has only announced one assistant coach on DeVries’ staff: Nick Norton, who’s been with DeVries since 2021.
