Beta Sigma Psi’s Little 500 team will race as Macro Cycling for the 74th running of the men’s race Saturday. IU Student Foundation interim director Emily Carrico confirmed the change to the Indiana Daily Student on Wednesday.
The change of name, finalized 6 p.m. Tuesday evening, comes nearly two months after IU’s chapter of Beta Sigma Psi was placed on cease and desist Feb. 28, pausing all organizational activities — including its participation in the Little 500 race — under further notice.
The team raced under Macro Cycling in last year’s Little 500 race. According to the Office of Student Life’s list of organizations on disciplinary status, Beta Sigma Psi was on disciplinary probation from Jan. 19, 2024, to July 19, 2024 for dishonest conduct harassment and hazing. The IDS also reported Beta Sigma Psi was placed on cease and desist Feb. 5, 2025.
The team race day roster consists of senior Andrew Flynn, junior Conor Furlong and sophomores Ryan Roop and Jack Gaylord. The four riders didn’t respond to multiple interview requests from the IDS.
Macro Cycling qualified 13th and will race in pink and white jerseys. The team will be in pit No. 32, the second closest pit behind the finish line, on the same side as Bill Armstrong Stadium’s grandstand.
The 37th running of the women’s Little 500 race starts at 4 p.m. Friday, while the men’s race is at 2 p.m. Saturday. Both races will be held at Bill Armstrong Stadium.
Editor’s note: The IDS’ Little 500 Guide was published in print April 17 prior to the team's name change. As a result, in the guide Friday and Saturday, the team will still be noted as “Beta Sigma Psi.”
