Amid retooling Indiana women’s basketball’s roster for the 2025-26 season, Indiana head coach Teri Moren is also adjusting her coaching staff. She hired Colsten Thompson as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator, according to an Indiana Athletics release Wednesday.

Thompson replaces Linda Sayavongchanh, who served in the role over the past three seasons.

He comes to Indiana after three seasons at the University of Alabama, where he served as the assistant coach and director of player development and recruiting operations. In his time in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, the Crimson Tide made three NCAA Tournament appearances and won at least 20 games in all three seasons.

He also helped Alabama sign nationally ranked recruiting classes during his tenure, including former Alabama guard Chloe Spreen, who committed to Indiana on April 2 out of the transfer portal.

“I’m super excited to join the Indiana Women’s Basketball family,” Thompson said in the release. It’s an honor to be part of a program with such a strong tradition, competitive spirit and commitment to developing student-athletes on and off the court. I’m ready to get to work and can’t wait to grow alongside this amazing team and staff.”

Thompson was previously an assistant coach at Lipscomb University, a graduate assistant at Louisiana Tech University and a student assistant at the University of Alabama in Huntsville.

The Hartselle, Alabama, native played collegiate basketball at Martin Methodist College and Wallace State Community College from 2014-16.

“I am very excited about Colsten joining the Indiana women’s basketball program, as he brings a wealth of knowledge in both recruiting and player development,” Moren said. “He will have an impact in a variety of areas in our program and am thrilled to welcome Colston, his wife Mackenzie and daughter, Tanner to Bloomington.”
