Former Iowa guard Josh Dix announced his commitment to Creighton University on Friday morning via a post on Instagram.
The 6-foot-5 sharpshooter is listed as the third-best player overall and best shooting guard in the portal, according to On3. Dix started all 32 of the Hawkeyes’ matchups in 2024-25 and averaged 14.4 points per game on 42.2% shooting from beyond the arc.
A Council Bluffs, Iowa, native, he was heavily recruited by Indiana men’s basketball head coach Darian DeVries during his tenure at in-state Drake University. Despite receiving his first Division 1 offer from the Bulldogs, the three-star recruit elected to play for head coach Fran McCaffery at Iowa.
The Hawkeyes announced McCaffery’s dismissal from his coaching position March 14 and Dix entered his name into the portal just five days later.
In addition to his recruiting connection with DeVries, Dix played on the Adidas 3SSB circuit with fellow transfer Tucker DeVries who committed to Indiana on April 2. Regardless, for the second time in his career, he turned down the opportunity to play alongside his former teammate.
Dix played a limited role for Iowa his freshman year in 2022-23 as he tallied just 9.2 minutes per game and didn’t record a single start.
His usage drastically increased the following season as he emerged a reliable scoring threat for the Hawkeyes with 8.9 points per game on 55.2% shooting from the floor. He was named an All-Big Ten honorable mention by the media following his sophomore campaign.
As a junior, Dix continued his offensive efficiency and — with added minutes — his scoring volume increased. He finished as the Hawkeyes second-leading scorer this past season.
Dix would have been just the fourth scholarship player on Indiana’s roster, alongside DeVries, Enright and incoming freshman forward Trent Sisley, a four-star recruit. The Hoosiers lost seven players to the portal this offseason after former head coach Mike Woodson stepped down following the 2024-25 season.
“The last thing you want to do is every year come in and have to sign 10, 11 new guys,” DeVries said in his introductory press conference March 19. “The first year you've got to do what you've got to do to get a roster put together, and then we build from there.”
With Dix’s commitment to Creighton, Indiana continues its search for a brand-new roster ahead of the 2025-26 season.
