The Monroe County Community School Corporation confirmed Aja Jester as the representative of District 7 on Tuesday during a regular Board of School Trustees meeting.
Jester’s appointment comes after her predecessor, Brandon Shurr, stepped down without explanation March 13.
On April 10, the Board of Trustees interviewed three candidates including Jester, Cori Thornton Hammock and Gabriel Holbrow. According to B Square Bulletin, by the end of the evening, the Board of School Trustees unanimously voted to appoint Jester.
“I am not one of many words in a moment, because I am a thinker,” Jester said about herself during the April 10 board interview according to the B Square Bulletin.
In the same interview Jester said she tries to be “thoughtful of everyone’s opinion” and considers everyone’s “lived experiences.”
Jester has been involved with multiple community organizations such as the South Central Community Action Program and Thriving Connections. She also served as a Monroe County Precinct Committee person.
Jester will hold the District 7 seat for the remainder of Shurr’s original term until 2026.
