Indiana men’s basketball secured its second commitment since hiring head coach Darian DeVries on March 18: his son, Tucker, who has signed with Indiana, according to On3 Sports’ Pete Nakos on Wednesday.

Tucker DeVries attended his father’s introductory press conference March 19 in Bloomington, wearing a gray sweatshirt with a red IU trident planted at the top.

A rising fifth-year senior guard, Tucker DeVries has played under his father for each of his four collegiate seasons. DeVries played in eight games at West Virginia University this past season before suffering a shoulder injury which later required surgery.

The 6-foot-7, 210-pound DeVries started 29 of 36 appearances as a true freshman at Drake University during the 2021-22 season. He averaged 13.9 points and 4.6 rebounds per game en route to earning Missouri Valley Conference Freshman of the Year.

DeVries was the MVC Player of the Year each of the next two seasons. In 2022-23, DeVries scored 18.6 points and grabbed 5.7 rebounds per game. He capped his Drake career with a dominant junior campaign, averaging 21.6 points, 6.7 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game.

The Waukee, Iowa, native started strong at West Virginia. He notched 14.9 points, 4.9 rebounds and 2.8 assists per contest while shooting a career-high 47.3% from beyond the arc before his season ended prematurely.

Because of his injury, DeVries will receive a medical redshirt, thus allowing him to be part of his father’s first roster in Bloomington. The younger DeVries is a career 36.7% 3-point shooter, and he’s averaged 17.7 points per game across 112 appearances.

DeVries has six games with at least 30 points, and 41 games with at least 20 points. He will enter his fifth-year senior season with 1,969 career points. He joins DePaul University transfer and senior guard Conor Enright, a teammate of his at Drake, as Darian DeVries’ first two portal grabs in Bloomington.
