Election Day has come and gone. As we wait for results, we should reflect on what this election won’t decide for us. It will not offer solutions to the political predicaments in which progressives find themselves. Neither former Vice President Joe Biden nor President Donald Trump has offered ethical ways to contend with anti-Black police violence, climate catastrophe, immigration or health care.

In years past, people with permits for Memorial Stadium parking lots have had to move their cars on home game weekends to make room for fans. Despite no fans being allowed at the games this year, people are still required to move their cars.

A vigil for late IU student Schuyler Bradley was held in Dunn Meadow on Sunday night. Bradley was shot early Friday morning in Tuscaloosa, Alabama and died later that day.

As social distancing continues and the cold weather looms, it will become increasingly difficult to spend evenings meeting with friends at the park or do other socially distanced outdoor activities. Taking lessons from one of the world’s happiest countries, make the best of this time by setting aside a few evenings at home to focus on self-care and relaxation, whether that be by yourself, with roommates or family.

As a child, I loved gathering wild plums and blackberries in my Berkeley, California backyard. As a teacher in Georgia — the country — I spent hours wandering the mountains behind my village collecting tiny mountain strawberries, purslane and feral mulberries.
