After a successful beginning to the season last weekend, Indiana Wrestling sent a group of nine wrestlers to compete at the Michigan State Open on Nov. 9. Head coach Angel Escobedo elected to bench the starting lineup and sent a group of backups to compete. Despite the loss in firepower, the Hoosiers continued to impress by putting seven wrestlers on the podium.

After over two years of delays, the Monroe County Council on Tuesday approved the $11.375 million purchase of property for a new justice complex, including a new county jail and court space. The council approved the purchase in a 5-1 vote.

IU Athletics is no stranger to media attention and bringing economic opportunity to Bloomington. Every year, IU basketball brings major broadcasting networks to Bloomington, networks to Bloomington and ticket sales, regardless of the team’s success, are high. The highlight of the IU sports year is historically the basketball season, and for the rest of the year we’re just waiting for the next basketball season to begin. That’s no longer the case now that our football team has become one of the most closely watched stories in the college football world.

Indiana Lieutenant Governor-elect Micah Beckwith threatened the Indiana Daily Student and IU in an X post Tuesday over the IDS’ Nov. 7 front cover, which featured a photo illustration of President-elect Donald Trump accompanied by quotes from his former political allies. In the post, Beckwith labeled the page “elitist leftist propaganda” and said it “needs to stop or we will be happy to stop it for them.”

The Associated Collegiate Press awarded the Indiana Daily Student the Newspaper and Multiplatform Pacemaker on Nov. 2.ACP is an organization that promotes the ethics and standards of journalism in print, broadcast and media. The Pacemaker Awards are considered one of the most prestigious awards in all collegiate journalism. These awards “recognize the overall excellence and distinguish the top student media produced during a particular school year.” The IDS also won first place for the newspaper category of “Best in Show,” an award that selects the best newspaper submitted by convention attendees. The newspaper the IDS submitted was its “The IDS has no confidence in the Media School’s plan for student media” edition.The Arbutus yearbook won fourth place for the Best Show Award for Yearbook, adding one more prestigious award to the IU student media legacy. This year marks the 25th Pacemaker the IDS has won for its newspaper.The IDS received numerous other ACP awards. Indiana men’s soccer senior forward Tommy Mihalic was named the Big Ten’s Offensive Player of the Year, the conference announced Nov. 8. Mihalic tied for the conference lead in goals with 10, becoming the first Hoosier to win the award since Victor Bezerra in 2020.

In 2016, my mom and I headed to the Bloomingdales in our hometown mall to catch a glimpse of Sarah Jessica Parker signing shoes from her brand SJP. At that time, I only knew her from the semi-forgettable, yet iconic rom coms she’d starred in (“Failure to Launch” is a classic in my house).
