For many, accessing birth control has become increasingly challenging. Power to Decide reports that in Indiana, 428,540 women of reproductive age live in "contraceptive deserts," counties with insufficient access to health centers offering a full range of contraceptive options. Of these, 99,870 reside in counties without a single center providing comprehensive contraception services.

Over 70% of Indiana University surveyed faculty reported it is not very or not at all clear that IU administration protects free speech on campus. The Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression’s 2024 FIRE Faculty Survey Report, “Silence in the Classroom,” was released Thursday. Between March and May of this year — around the time of the pro-Palestinian encampment protests in Dunn Meadow — 165 faculty responded to FIRE’s 53 question survey with topics related to free expression and academic freedom.

Although I’ve only been a food columnist for the Indiana Daily Student for three semesters, I’ve been an avid foodie my whole life. As a Georgia native, I’ve been fortunate enough to enjoy the pleasures of chains such as Publix, Waffle House, Cava and Yogli Mogli. Yet, like most things in life, being a food enthusiast has its downfalls.

Each year, Spotify releases its annual “Wrapped:” a compilation of data that tells users their most listened to artists, their most played songs and the number of minutes they listened in a beautiful, entertaining little slideshow. Despite this year’s release feeling disappointing to some, it is still one of the most anticipated, and posted about, days of the year — whether the result be embarrassing, or something worth bragging about.

When I saw the “Wicked” movie for the first time, I sobbed my eyes out. I cried again during my second watch (apologies to my boyfriend who had to listen to my sniffles) I have always felt a strong connection to the story. Growing up, my parents would play “One Short Day” on car rides into New York City. I would run around my house singing “Popular.” My best friend and I pretended to be Glinda and Elphaba and would perform rousing renditions of “What is This Feeling.” For years I had begged my parents to take me to see the musical on Broadway and when I turned 12, they finally did.

While these stories are fun, older films provide a true escape from reality, which is the perfect way to cope with stressors like finals or familial tensions that arise during the holidays.
