4 charged in theft of giant key sculpture installed in Maryland

FREDERICK, Md. – These giant skeleton keys can’t be used to pick locks, but they could soon be opening some jailhouse doors. Four men were arrested and charged with stealing one of 30 fiberglass keys installed throughout Frederick’s historic downtown in tribute to national anthem author Francis Scott Key.

Exhibit provides look into Tibetan life

Bloomington City Hall is playing host to “Tibet in Sight and Sound,” an exhibit of rare photography and music from the Tibetan Mongolian Buddhist Cultural Center’s collection. Those who are interested in familiarizing themselves with Tibetan life can do so until Oct. 31.

BOLOGNA, Italy – I have always thought that the winter season and a good sense of fashion were mutually exclusive until I moved here. When the temperature drops, my wardrobe usually consists of leggings under ripped jeans and an assortment of my boyfriend’s sweatshirts. Style takes a backseat to the need to stay toasty.

7,900 attend Dylan show

With silver buckets of incense burning behind the stage and an elaborate introduction, Bob Dylan took the stage at Assembly Hall on Friday night with his band members – all of whom were dressed in black, with Dylan looking like he was straight from an old Western movie. Elvis Costello, who also helped kick off Homecoming weekend, performed solo prior to Dylan and his band. Amos Lee opened the show with blues rock.

Humor, horror combine in ‘Shocktoberfest!’

The Rose Firebay at the John Waldron Arts Center was filled to capacity Saturday night for “Shocktoberfest!,” a series of short, spine-tingling plays presented by the Cardinal Stage Company. “The show is meant to be fun and not taken seriously,” said Cardinal Artistic Director Randy White.

‘The Real Thing’ keeps it real at Wells-Metz

There has never been, and probably never will be, a theatrical production with this much raw, gritty and heart-felt emotion. “The Real Thing,” which opened Friday in the Wells-Metz Theatre, lived up to its name. From the opening scene, the players grabbed the audience by the throat and refused to let go until the very last line.

History unfolds through fan exhibit

Ostrich feathers, lace, spangles and hand-painted silk adorn the 100 fans on display at the “Fantasia: Fans from the Sage Collection” exhibit at the Monroe County History Center. The exhibit, which runs until Jan. 5, chronicles how fans were used throughout history.

Francis Ford Coppola chastises trio of actors

NEW YORK – Everyone wants to work with Al Pacino, Robert De Niro and Jack Nicholson – except Francis Ford Coppola. Coppola, who directed Pacino and De Niro in “The Godfather” trilogy, said the trio of Oscar-winning actors have become apathetic.

‘Susannah’ storms the Musical Arts Center this weekend

An intense exploration of hypocrisy, false accusation and the consequences of both will take place this weekend at the Musical Arts Center. Carlisle Floyd’s “Susannah,” the most-performed American opera, opens at 8 p.m. Friday. It is the second production of the IU Opera Theater’s 2007-08 season.

Since she was a child, junior Samantha Weiss has wanted to work in a museum. Now, after enrolling in IU’s new undergraduate Arts Administration Program, Weiss was granted the chance to intern next summer at the Indianapolis Museum of Art. “I always had an interest in museums, but wasn’t aware of how to study it in college,” she said.

NEW YORK – Wanna be the first to score a copy of the Spice Girls greatest-hits album? You’ll have to go through Victoria’s Secret to get it. The newly reunited British girl group’s CD will be available starting Nov. 13 at Victoria’s Secret stores and on the company’s Web site in the U.S., Capitol Music Group said Tuesday.
