Pop stars hassled in Malaysia over sexy concert routines

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia – Some of the world’s top pop stars are facing growing pressure to keep skimpy outfits and steamy dance moves off the stage during their concerts in the predominantly Muslim country of Malaysia, event organizers said Wednesday, citing protests by conservative Islamic critics who believe such Western performers can corrupt youths

Guster coming to IU in October

The Union Board announced it will present Guster at 8 p.m. Oct. 2 at the IU Auditorium. Tickets will go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 31 and can be purchased at the IU Auditorium box office or online at www.ticketmaster.com. Tickets are $25 for students and $28 for non-students.

The Indiana Arts Commission announced this week that Bloomington has been chosen as the site of the 2007 Governor’s Arts Awards on Oct. 27.

Local artist overcomes past through art

Strokes of bright blue and red watercolors paint the story of Bloomington artist Layla Caplinger’s life. They show her past, her struggles, her journey to artistic freedom. And now, they’ve won her a spot as the featured artist in the Rhythms of the Soul exhibit, now at Bellevue Art Gallery.

Film festival brings out Bloomington’s dark side

A dark carnival crashes and slashes its way into Bloomington tonight. Making camp at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater, The Dark Carnival Film Festival will feature more than 40 independent horror movies, a sideshow, a horror rock band and, on Saturday night, a Dance Party Massacre.

With all the hype over Eric Gordon and our new University President Michael McRobbie, it can be easy to forget that Bloomington houses a world-famous music school and a dense local arts community. We’re going to change that. Both of us are passionate about the arts and our main goal is to make them more accessible to students and residents so that others can share our appreciation.

“Peau Rouge Indiana”, the sculpture in front of the Musical Arts Center, will undergo a complete restoration beginning Aug. 6, according to a press release from IU Media Relations.

Bloomington presents its own rendition of ‘Romeo and Juliet’

The world’s most famous love story will take a Bloomington angle when Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet” is performed in September on the outdoor Third Street Park stage. Auditions for the play, produced by The Monroe County Civic Theater, were hosted Monday and Tuesday at the park’s stage.
