Buzzer-beater makes game an instant classic

Students not only filled their entire 7,800 seat allotment, but they arrived loud and early Saturday evening, making their presence felt with an environment the No. 1 ranked Kentucky Wildcats hadn’t seen all season.

IU moves to 9-0 after trampling No. 1 Kentucky

Down by two with 5.6 seconds remaining, senior guard Verdell Jones III penetrated the arc and kicked the ball back out to Watford on the left wing, who then hit the game-winning three-pointer as time expired, giving the Hoosiers (9-0) a 73-72 win against the No. 1 Kentucky Wildcats (8-1).

How It Happened: IU uproots top-ranked team

Amid the shock of Christian Watford’s buzzer-beating 3-pointer to knock off No. 1 Kentucky, many probably didn’t care much about the box score. But here are some statistics as to how and why IU was able to pull off the upset.

After Kentucky guard Doron Lamb hit the second of two free throws to extend the Wildcats' lead to two, IU forward Christian Watford hit the game winning three-pointer as time expired to give IU (9-0) a 73-72 win against the No. 1 ranked Wildcats (8-1) on Saturday evening.

Indiana has upset No. 1 Kentucky, 73-72. The Hoosiers are 9-0.
