Attendance at women’s basketball games continues to lag

At IU and across the nation, the difference between men’s and women’s basketball is clear. The women’s brand of basketball lags behind in the ticket office and television ratings. Last season, IU ranked ninth in the Big Ten for average attendance at home women’s basketball games.

After handily defeating Michigan Saturday by 19 points, the IU men’s basketball coach Tom Crean said he has had no tolerance for complacency as the Hoosiers (10-8, 1-4) prepare for a 9 p.m. Thursday road match with No. 17 Wisconsin (13-4, 3-2) on ESPN.

Powered by junior guard Verdell Jones’ game-high 24 points and a 3-of-3 effort form the 3-point line from sophomore guard Jordan Hulls, the Hoosiers won their first Big Ten game of the season in dominant fashion in an 80-61 victory against Michigan on Saturday at Assembly Hall.
