Woman punches man during attempted robbery

The 47-year-old woman reported to police at about 2:30 p.m. she was walking on a gravel road east of the B-Line Trail. Two men approached her and one of them attempted to steal her backpack when she punched him in the face.

Pharmacy evacuated after bomb threat Friday

An unidentified suspect called CVS Pharmacy, 2701 E. Third St., at 5:11 p.m., Friday and said there was a bomb on the property, said Sgt. Ian Lovan of the Bloomington Police Department.

Police arrest bank robbery suspect

The first robbery charge to Christopher P. Sowers, 33, was a result of Monday’s offense that occurred at about 1 p.m. The second charge was for his attempt to rob the same bank at about 10:30 a.m. Sept. 5, according to the release.

A 20-year-old woman told police she was walking near East Eighth Street and North Lincoln Street at about 1 a.m. when a man got out of an SUV and attempted to bring her in. She then kicked the man in the face, and the occupants drove off.

Hud Mellencamp, 19, Speck Mellencamp, 18, and Ty A. Smith, 19, face felony battery charges, according to a press release issued by the Bloomington Police Department. Smith is a freshmen wide receiver for the IU football team.
