Quick turnaround could pose problems for Hoosiers

·

In its final regular season game against Northwestern last Saturday, IU managed to scrape out an 88-80 win in overtime. The Hoosiers will look to use the same methods that got them the Senior Day victory in the Big Ten Tournament’s opening round in a rematch with the Wildcats today.

Led by youngest members, IU avoids worst ever losing streak

·

It’s somewhat fitting that IU couldn’t pull out its win against Northwestern in regulation. The 88-80 overtime win in the finale of the regular season just wouldn’t have been right if it didn’t feature a time of uncertainty, which has been the only constant for the 2009-10 IU men’s basketball season.

Freshman trio emerges, likely key to IU’s future

·

Saturday afternoon at Assembly Hall, Tom Crean’s wolf pack grew by three. It was a day honoring four seniors. It was a day in which IU’s one-two punch of sophomore guard Verdell Jones and freshman forward Christian Watford combined for 38 points and 16 rebounds.

Another game, another loss

·

It was Senior Night at Mackey Arena on Wednesday, and Tom Crean’s Hoosiers essentially served as a prop in Purdue’s festivities. The Purdue fans bid their farewells to seniors Chris Kramer, Keaton Grant and some guy named Mark Wahlford. The Hoosiers, meanwhile, said hello to their second consecutive 20-loss season in the 74-55 defeat.

Mauled at Mackey: Hoosiers lose, 74-55

·

Regardless of the odds it faced in the past two seasons, this Hoosier squad never seemed intimidated. That changed during the first trip to Mackey Arena in the Tom Crean’s era as IU coach in a 74-55 loss Wednesday.

IU falls at Purdue, 74-55

With a 74-55 loss at Purdue on Wednesday night, IU set an historic low with its 11th-straight conference defeat, longest in school history. And just as the final score resembled those of last year with another double-digit deficit, the play up to the final horn prompted flashbacks.

Historic streak or upset on line at Purdue

·

When the Hoosiers take on the No. 7 Purdue Boilermakers today, it will see a team that handed it a heartbreaking 78-75 loss at Assembly Hall in early February. This time though, the team’s fiercest rival will be without its star forward, Robbie Hummel.

Purdue remains tough despite loss of Hummel

·

The identity of the Boilermakers changed the moment Purdue forward Robbie Hummel tore his anterior cruciate ligament during a drive across the lane at Minnesota on Feb. 24. IU’s in-state rival had lost its best outside shooter, playmaker and one of its top rebounders. When IU travels to West Lafayette, it will not see the same team from Feb. 4.

'Pressing' need for change

·

The story goes that it once rained for 40 days and 40 nights.  But it’s been 41 days since IU’s last victory, as one-by-one the Hoosiers have been hit by a storm of losses ever since the Jan. 21 victory at Penn State.

IU its own worst enemy in defeat

·

On Saturday, IU coach Tom Crean told members of the media that “statistics accuse; the film convicts.” Following the Wisconsin loss, the team went through a film session in which individual players were asked to call out their own mistakes. Crean might have his team do the same following IU’s 73-57 loss at Iowa, but this team seems guilty until proven innocent.

IU drops 10th straight with loss

·

IOWA CITY, Iowa — It all began here. The first game of this 10-game losing streak began against Iowa on Jan. 24, but it wouldn’t end there. IU dropped its 13th conference game Sunday, losing 73-57 on the road against the Hawkeyes.
