A letdown in Tempe

Fifteen minutes into the game, the Hoosiers' magical run was over. With the desert sun slowly slipping away into the Arizona night, so did the Hoosiers hopes of winning their first bowl game since 1991. PHOTO GALLERY: Insight Bowl BLOG: Under The Rock

IU's dream ends with nightmarish results

After beating Purdue on Nov. 18, everything had gone the Hoosiers way. Not only did they get to play in a 13th game, but they got to play it in sunny Arizona against a team from the Big 12.

It's raining 3s

As rain poured outside Assembly Hall Saturday night, Eric Gordon poured 3-pointers into the bucket. The freshman scored five 3-pointers in the beginning of the first half to set the course for a 100-52 victory over Western Carolina. At the end of the game, coach Kelvin Sampson gave a special shout-out to fans for braving the elements to cheer on his team.

Hoosiers to face Michigan duo

·

With the match tied 3-3 against Iowa last weekend at the Varsity Tennis Courts, IU No. 3 singles player Brianna Williams tried not to think of her match against Milica Veselinovic as the one that would separate the winners from the losers. However, both teams were rallying around their lone remaining players, and the fact was hard to ignore.

GAME POINT

·

Lin Loring looks tired. Sitting behind the desk of his Assembly Hall office, the all-time winningest coach in collegiate women's tennis rubbed the sleep from his eyes and spoke in the deep baritone that has commanded the attention of collegiate tennis players for more than three decades. "There doesn't seem to be enough hours in the day," he said. Even his dark thick eyebrows sag a bit. Sleep, however, is the last thing on Loring's mind. In his 29th season as the IU women's tennis coach, Loring, 55, is one win shy of his 300th Big Ten win -- a level of coaching success only achieved at IU by the legendary Bob Knight and recently-retired baseball coach Bob Morgan.

‘The one who stayed’

Fans cheer. Coaches yell. Players chatter. Few can resist the electrifying atmosphere that encompasses Assembly Hall. One man on the home team’s bench, however, sits quietly. He follows the action on the court intently but hardly raises a finger to the action of the game.
