Although Kappa Kappa Gamma qualified in the middle of the pack, the defending champions wasted little time making a move Friday at the women’s Little 500.

For the second weekend in a row, the IU men’s soccer team traveled up to Indianapolis to battle not only a tough opponent, but also less-than-ideal playing conditions. The hard, uneven field of Warren Central High School proved to be a speed bump in the Hoosiers’ offensive attack as it tied Cincinnati 1-1 during the Literacy Classic on Friday.
In the same month as Major League Baseball’s celebration of Jackie Robinson Day, the lack of minority representation in the 57th running of the Little 500 field showed some involved that there are still strides that need to be made in diversifying the intramural bicycle race.
The IU men’s golf team finished seventh this weekend at its final regular-season tournament. The Fossum/Spartan Invitational took place in East Lansing, Mich., home of host Michigan State.
When the IU water polo team hosted No. 19 Michigan two weeks ago the Hoosiers needed overtime to win. On Sunday in Ann Arbor, Mich., at the Western Division championship match the teams went into overtime again. But unlike two weeks ago, the game Saturday went to Michigan.
Five teams. One lap. One trophy. After riding in a group five-strong for almost 90 laps, the Cutters, Phi Kappa Psi, Dodds House, the Black Key Bulls and Team Major Taylor had but one lap to determine who would come out on top.
The IU softball team ran into an offensive juggernaut this weekend, getting swept in a pair of doubleheaders with Michigan State and Michigan.
The Big Ten road woes continued this weekend for the IU baseball team as Ohio State claimed all four games of the series.
The road was unkind to the IU men’s tennis team this weekend, who lost 7-0 to No. 17 Michigan and 4-3 to No. 41 Penn State. The losses marked the end of the regular season for the Hoosiers (14-11, 4-6), who finished the year 3-8 away from home and 1-4 in Big Ten road matches.
When Kappa Delta senior Lindsey Manck broke free of the pack with 40 laps to go, it wasn’t intended to be the decisive move in the race.
As predicted by many riders, the 57th Little 500 came down to a final-lap sprint. A pack of five teams were in contention for first place going into the final 10 laps. In the end, Cutters rider Alex Bishop out-sprinted Phi Kappa Psi rider Erik Styacich to the finish line for a record eighth championship for the Cutters.
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The sun was shining brightly throughout the weekend, but unfortunately for the Hoosiers it wasn’t shining on them.
In a sprint to the finish, the Cutters earned their eighth all-time championship. Cutters junior Alex Bishop beat out riders from Phi Kappa Psi, Dodds House, Black Key Bulls and Team Major Taylor to take the checkered flag.
The IU soccer team’s players know good time management. They practice, attend class and compete regularly, yet they also manage to give back to the community.
With its NCAA tournament status uncertain, there is only one formula for the No. 64 IU men’s tennis team: win. The team’s ranking might turn out to be too low to earn a spot in the 64-team field.
Tournament time is almost here, but first comes a pit stop. The IU women’s golf team will start postseason play soon, but first the Hoosiers have one more regular season task. On Saturday, they will compete in the Lady Buckeye Spring Invitational at the newly renovated Scarlet Golf Course in Columbus, Ohio.

Some say Little 500 is all about strategy. But the women of Teter seem to have a pretty simple equation that serves as a team motto: “Ride fast, turn left.” And so long as they try their hardest, the No. 1 goal for the women is to have fun. “If our best means we are the best, that would be extra fun,” said junior Teter rider Sydney Hatten.
Every rider in Saturday’s Little 500 wants what senior Dodds House rider Chris Chartier has: a championship ring. With the defending champion Alpha Tau Omega watching the race from the bleachers after failing to qualify, Dodds House is the most recent team in this year’s race to have won a championship. Dodds won the race in 2005.
Following Tuesday’s 9-7 loss to Indiana State, IU baseball coach Tracy Smith expressed concern not that his team had lost, but how it lost.
